Michael
Damrow
Born in San
Bernadino, California, Michael grew up listening to the Beatles, the Who,
Neil Young and others.
Most of his
early favorites have gone on to be regarded as rock classics.
In
junior high, he joined his first band, ‘The Fugitives’.
In 1967 while
in high school, he moved on to the psychedelic band, ‘Emerald City’.
Michael
became a born-again Christian in 1970 and his musical talents developed
deep roots and spiritual meaning.
His
pilgrimage led him to help form the Jesus rock band called Sheep based
in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
This
group played extensively throughout the Midwest as part of the Milwaukee
Jesus People ministry.
While
the bands mission developed, so did Michael’s relationship with the Sheep’s
lead singer, Mary.
The
couple married in April 1972. The ministry then headed to Europe where
the Sheep recorded their first album.
The
group migrated to England in 1973 settling in London.
The
Milwaukee Jesus People was now known as the Jesus Family.
With
the help of Deo Gloria Trust, they began creating the multi-media rock
musical, ‘Lonesome Stone’.
Michael
wrote several songs for the musical including the title song.
The
couple also served as scriptwriters. Mary was cast as the female lead actress
and singer.
This
musical enjoyed an extensive run at the famous Rainbow Theatre in London.
‘Lonesome Stone’ toured throughout England and then came to the shores
of America.
In
1974, Michael became the bass player for ‘The Mighty Flyers’ based in Manchester
England.
The
group toured throughout England, Wales and Ireland.
As
the band prepared to record an album, Michael and Mary returned to America,
settling Wisconsin where their first daughter Elizabeth was born.
Michael
became a carpenter to support his family.
Three
more children were added to the Damrow family: Simon in 1976, Jesse in
1980 and Molly in 1982.
They
dedicated themselves to family life and all it’s adventures. Through it
all, Michael never stopped writing songs.
In
1986, Michael began his own business, building custom staircases.
In
1999, Michael began writing a new group of songs that comprise the CD,
Riding The Wave’.
Michael
said, “The purpose of this CD is to use it as a musical gospel tract. I
share it with builders, architects, tradesmen,
construction
workers and my wealthy clients building their deam homes”
Michael
and Mary worked together on another CD titled ‘Homesick for Heaven"
released in 2003.
Currently both
are involved in The Jesus Family Fellowship in Milwaukee, Wi. with a open
invitation ministry.
In 2004 Mike
and Mary re-grouped with some of their old friends from the original Sheep.
"The Sheep are back in town"
Mike and Mary
are currently working on another CD with some classic originals and new
compositions.
